Grow Together
We reach out into the community to manage and support others with growing spaces around the county.
Corporate teams, scouts and brownies, day centres and children and family groups all access these community growing spaces. They have helped to develop the space and cared for the crops, as well as eaten them. Here are a few of the projects we are involved with; Cold Overton Road, Oakham - car park bed Growing a combination of flowers and edibles in a walled bed along the boundary of Rutland Plastics Ltd car park. With cubs, beavers and scouts this bed was revitalised in late 2019. Local residents have cared for the area during 2020. Kendrew Barracks - Cottesmore In collaboration with Rutland Community Ventures this area was developed and built by families from the barracks. Due to have a grand opening in April 2020, this had to be postponed. The pandemic did not stop the growing, families grew vegetables and flowers in the space. Plans for 2021 will include an open day and official opening. Barrowden Wildflower Meadow The Barrowden community, with support from Active Rutland’s Grow Together project, have transformed an area of about 300 m²above the village allotments into a wildflower meadow. Read more about it - click here Cottesmore Parish Council Allotments We were able to help this project with information on setting up, funding and bee keeping. |
