​28th March ​Growers Row Open Day

Family activities, garden tours, and refreshments. Take a look around your local shared garden, producing delicious organic food from seed and serving as a venue for outdoor education. This peaceful and productive garden is at Rutland Showground on the outskirts of Oakham.  A place to learn new skills, meet new people and enjoy the outdoors.

8th April Soft Wood Cuttings Workshop

In this workshop we will be learning how to take cuttings from a variety of 'soft wood' plants. Each participant will take home their cuttings, to nurture and grow at home.

9th May Dawn Chorus Workshop

We are once again delighted to host this awe-inspiring event, guided by Richard Garnett from Leicester and Rutland Ornithological Society at the spectacular Oakham Canal.  Join us at the crack of dawn to experience the springtime dawn chorus of birdsong!  Tea and coffee served in the car park afterwards.

31st May Rutland County Show Horticultural Marquee

Root-and-Branch Out are delighted to host the Horticulture Marquee at the Rutland County Show.  Bringing together organisations and groups from the local community all under one marquee roof, to showcase the Rutland horticultural scene.

10th June Bug Hotel Workshop

This workshop starts with looking at all the places bugs love to live, and the environmental conditions they look for in a home. Then we start building bespoke and elaborate 'hotel's to meet the needs of the bugs in our gardens.  Fun for children and young people of all ages.

8th July ​Drawing From Nature Workshop

Join us at Growers Row for this art workshop, drawing inspiration from the glorious and colourful surroundings. Release your inner creativity, starting with a guided activity to lead artists into free rein with a simple selection of materials.  Participants are also welcome to bring-your-own equipment.

12th August Meadow Scything Workshop

Have a go at scything!  We'll take you through the basics of this environmentally friendly, traditional way of cutting grass as we top the meadow at Growers Row.  Learn why this method is so environmentally friendly, and how the physical benefits of this exercise.

9th September Apple Pressing Workshop

Tis the season for apples and making delicious fresh apple juice! Bring apples and clean empty bottles along to the garden, where we will be pressing litres of juice together.

14th October Garden Bird Feeders Workshop

As the seasons turn and nights get colder, birds need more food to live and thrive.  We can provide birdseed for the birds in our gardens without buying into plastic bird feeders and excessive packaging.  Join us in the garden to make environmentally friendly bird feeders and seed balls.

7th November Lantern Making Workshop

Join us in the wonderful Great Hall of Oakham Castle to make magical lanterns from willow and tissue paper.

11th November Seed Packet Origami Workshop

Join us at Growers Row to make seed saving packets from old magazines.  We are always looking for ways to reuse, reduce, repurpose and recycle - these gorgeous seed packets do just that.

14th November ​Magical Lantern Walk

Join the children of Rutland with warm glowing lanterns for the annual Magical Lantern Walk!  Gather at 4.30pm outside Oakham All Saints' Church and processing through Cutts Close to Oakham Castle. This is a wonderful FREE event for young children and adults alike, join in the magic, all welcome!

9th December Festive Mantel Decorations Workshop

This festive season we will be creating overhead door mantel and fireplace mantel decorations, using locally sources, sustainable and eco-friendly materials.  Free parking, tea and coffee provided.
