Children's Play Area
Growers Row has a designated Children's Play Area, a place for children to initiate, create, solve, and resolve through play with their own minds, hands, and hearts.
This facility is for parents working in the garden who bring their children. A log of attendance is kept for each session. Adult Input
A playworker will monitor the Children's Play Area, keeping an eye out for physical and emotional hazards - and maintain a safe space for play and players.
Parents and guardians stay in the designated parent area, where children can leave from - play - and return to, following the Circle of Security model. Materials
Loose-parts & open-ended: The Children's Play Area has real objects (not replica toys) that can be used in all sorts of play, in all sorts of ways, and moved around.
Eco-safe: All materials brought into the play area are carefully considered with a sustainability lens. We look for materials that are long-lasting and/or compost safely back into the ecosystem. |
Benefits of Play
Play grows skills that children take with them through life – benefits such as problem-solving and lengthy attention spans, self-confidence and motivation, self-direction and creativity, social skills and imagination, physical agility and spatial awareness, risk management and working within oneʼs own capabilities ... and so much more! To provide our children with the opportunity to play as nature intended - they need plenty of space and time to play uninterrupted in a play-rich environment. The Children's Play Area is designed to do just that.
